Last Friday we headed to Son of Steak in Nottingham. I’ve been wanting to visit ever since it opened last year, we did try last September but we couldn’t get a table as it was too busy when we went. Son of Steak is on Trinity Square in the centre of Nottingham making it the perfect location if you are shopping, at the cinema or on a night out. There is seating both indoors and outdoors and the whole place has a lovely relaxed vibe. Once inside we were greeted by the very friendly staff and seated at our table and given menus and asked to order at the counter.
James and myself both went for the steak option, he had the double flat iron and I had the special. Both were absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection, so juicy and tender. We both went for hand cut chips and house slaw for our sides but the lovely staff also brought over some of their gorgeous crispy onion loaf (which is to die for!) for us to try and some of their secret recipe marinated chicken plus a range of sauces for us all to try. If steak isn’t for you then there is also chicken, burgers and different salads for you to choose from too so don’t let the name of the restaurant put you off 😉
While we waited for our meals we had a bowl of marinated mixed olives to share. The menu does have a good selection of drinks, we had a beer and the kids had apple juice as the Ribena bottles that are on the kids menu had all sold out. James had New York cheesecake for dessert and I had the chocolate brownie… both of which come with bottomless vanilla ice cream and were both really good!
The kids menu is great! For £5.95 the kids can choose a main with a mini carb side and a veggie side plus a drink and add a dessert for £1.50 if they want. I love the fact that there is plenty of choice for the little ones they can have steak, mac ‘n’ cheese, beef burger, chicken burger, cheese burger or boneless chicken breast. And to my kids delight there isn’t a baked bean or pea in sight! The veggie options are creamed spinach, roast veg, flat mushrooms or raw salad which is such a refreshing change to the usual kids menu!
Bugs was so happy that he got to have steak for dinner, it’s not very often you see steak on the kids menu. Boo went for a burger and really enjoyed it. They both had ice cream after and which is basically Mr Whippy style that you can serve yourself and add your own sauces so they were in their element!
Overall we had a really great meal at Son of Steak and we will most definitely be going back again soon.
