During the Easter break we were invited to spend a weekend at Potters Resort in Norfolk. Potters Resort is at Hopton-on-Sea off the A12 midway between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, in a rural coastal setting not far from the Norfolk Broads. It is in a really great location right next to the beach. At Potters Resort everything is included in your stay, so once you have paid you really don’t need to think about anything else! There is no need to even leave the site!
We stayed in a Bungalow Plus, which is a step-up from the standard Bungalow. I was pretty underwhelmed with the accommodation to be honest, it was very clean and we had everything that we needed, it was also comfortable, but compare my pictures to those on the website and you’ll see lots of lovely cushions on the bed and they are dressed really nicely, ours however were not…
My only other real gripe with the accommodation were the mirrors, they had all been wiped over with a wet cloth so they were really streaked, I’m a little OCD when it comes to mirrors and love them to shine and would really expect it in a place like this. I’ve done a little video of how the Bungalow looked as soon as I walked it, it’s only very small as I had a quick walk round and the kids were dying to get in and my phone was dying too.
It’s good to know what to expect with accommodation and I was expecting a little more luxury from the photos on the website. Having said that we were perfectly comfortable and happy with the accommodation once we had settled in. The refrigerator came in really handy and there were also towels, toiletries, hairdryer, iron and iron board provided, so we had everything that we might need. The beds were very comfy too!
Potters Resort offers 4 meals a day for each full day of your stay… Breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack. We never got round to having the midnight snack as we were always so full and the kids were too tired but we really enjoyed the meals that we did have. The kids loved being able to go to the buffet and choose exactly what they wanted. There was always a really good selection for both adults and children. My only criticism is I would have liked to see more veggies for the kids. The service staff were fantastic and always made sure we had everything we needed.
We ate every meal in the Garden Restaurant which seats over 600 guests. On arrival we were given our table number and this is where we ate every meal time. We loved just being able to walk in and sit at our table which was upstairs so we could watch everything going on below. The restaurant was never too busy and we didn’t ever really have to queue at the buffet which was nice. You could also select some meals from the menu which were always brought out in a very timely manner. We really cannot fault anything about the restaurant or meals we had.
Evening entertainment gets top marks from us! It was fantastic! It took place in the Atlas Theatre each evening, we went here both nights. One night I took the kids to the kids entertainment while the bingo was on and then joined Daddy for the Legends show presented by Potters Theatre Company which is described as a thrilling journey from the days of rock ‘n’ roll to today’s Kings and Queens of pop. With something for everyone this show spans 60 years of hits and pays tribute to incredible array of stars including Elvis, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Take That and over 30 more! The kids sat glued to it, the singing, dancing was better than anything I’ve ever seen at a holiday resort before! We were very very impressed.
The second night we played bingo which had really good cash prizes, the flyer prize was over £700 unfortunately we didn’t win… but it was really good fun and such a good turn out too! Then it was another show presented by Potters Theatre Company called ‘Stage and Screen’ which had all the kids in the room enthralled as it started over by covering some amazing Disney songs! Another fantastic show!
On arrival we were given a schedule of everything happening for our stay, so many brilliant activities that were included in the cost of the holiday so we didn’t have to worry about anything, we just turned up at the allocated times and got in the queues for each one, we didn’t have to wait long for anything!
One thing is for sure, you will never be bored at Potters Resort! The kids went on fun karts, bungee trampolines, played on the playbus, went on the mega army assault course, Boo won a medal for winning junior archery, we played table tennis, had a go at indoor kurling and played on the playground… all this is one day!
There was also so much more that we didn’t do and even more that we couldn’t do because of the kids ages. I would say Potters Resort is perfect for older kids as there is so much for them to do. I would have liked to have seen it a little more friendly for under 5’s but still a really good range of things to do.
The beach is a very short walk and you can access it via steps, as you can see from the photos it is a narrow stretch of sand, the kids found plenty of places to play. The sea was very cold but the sand was lovely!
The beach is an added bonus on a sunny day but really the kids won’t even have time to think about going to the beach with everything available on the resort 🙂
We had a fantastic weekend and would most definitely go back! I loved not having to worry about cooking, I could just turn up for my meals and relax! The kids loved absolutely everything but mostly the activities and not being told no because we couldn’t afford something! Daddy’s favourite was the evening entertainment and the kippers at breakfast which he said were the best he’d ever had!
The resort also has beauty studio in case you need a little pampering, if we had been there for longer I would have definitely taken advantage of that. There is also a swimming pool, ten pin bowling and so many more activities that we didn’t get time to take part in.
So yes we would highly recommend Potter’s Resort to you!
