The lovely ladies from LoveKeepCreate are on the blog today to tell you a little about themselves and their fantastic business! I absolutely love the look of their keepsakes, especially the Christmas Stockings… *runs off to find out the kids first Christmas outfits*
Who are you?
Merry and Rachel. We’ve been friends for 10 years. We’ve gone from workmates to mummies and back to work mates. All stages involved wine.
What do you do?
We make beautiful keepsakes from the precious old baby clothes you can’t bear to part with – stuffed animals, quilts, blankets, 3D pictures. We also make playtime teepees (with special fabric the kids can colour in themselves), the Daddy Dress and Shirt, made for your little one from Daddy’s favourite old shirt and seasonal items such as keepsake Christmas stockings.
When did you establish your business?
LoveKeepCreate officially launched on 31 May 13 following 2 years of running as a much smaller business.
What made you start your own business?
It grew out of a passion to create beautiful things for ourselves, then when they proved popular, for other people too!
What do you love about working for yourself?
Being able to spend time with the children during the day and generally being in charge of how we use our own time. We’ve also been really lucky that we’re great friends and we’re on the same wavelength – we always seem to agree! This process has definitely brought us closer and it’s been such a pleasure.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
Not having enough time to do everything! It’s really hard to make boundaries between home and work life when you work from home and when everything you do is directly to grow the business for your family. It doesn’t help that a lot of the social networking and customer interaction we love doing is at night. Our husbands would probably like to see more of us in the evenings without a laptop glued to our knees!
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
No, this has been an amazing experience so far and it feels like we’re still just at the start of something really exciting.
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Love what you do. Be realistic that starting your own business and working from home are definitely NOT the easy option, you’ll probably work harder than you ever have in your life AND whilst trying to look after the kids/house/husband etc.
