What made you start your own business?
I desperately wanted a business of my ‘own’ that I could shape to what I wanted it to be. It was also important to me to be able to work flexibly around the children and home life.

What do you love about working for yourself?

Being in control of the company and having the ability to ‘make things happen’.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
There’s nothing that I really don’t like; however, working late into the night is quite a common event!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I don’t think that there is anything significant that I would have done differently. Setting up my own business has been a real learning curve and I’ve learnt lots of new things as I’ve progressed along the journey. If something doesn’t go completely to plan, I try to jot it down and then treat it as a learning for next time.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Set times of the day when you will work on the business and also those when you will spend time with the family. Try to use your time wisely e.g. once the children are in bed can be a good time to catch up on marketing on social media.

Three top tips:
• It can be done. Just take one step at the time. At times, it feels as though there is too much to do and learn.
• Try to take one step at a time and soon you’ll find that you’ve achieved so much more than you initially thought possible.
• Finally, enjoy it! Starting your own business is extremely rewarding – take the time to remember this.
