When did you establish your business?
In April 2012, shortly after my maternity leave finished after having my second child.IMG_2645

What made you start your own business?

I love making things from beautiful fabric and really enjoyed making my girls unique and handmade bibs, blankets and hair bands. I got so many great comments of people about my items and people started asking me to make them things as birthday gifts for their children and to give to others. I thought that doing something that I loved that fit in around my children couldn’t be more perfect!

What do you love about working for yourself?
I love the flexibility that it gives me and that I can drop my children off to school and nursery and pick them up myself every day.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
You have to be able to self motivating (which is quite easy for me as I love what I do) but that can be difficult if you feel tired or under the weather.

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I would have had more confidence in myself to start my own business sooner.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Find something that you love doing and think about how it could work itself into a business. Do lots of research into your market, and also into the technicalities of business. Sign up for relevant courses – there are lots of great free ones, including those from the HRMC which are really useful.
