Mums in Business – Sonia – That would be me ;)

Mum in Business

I can’t believe I’ve been doing these features for almost 5 years now and it never once occurred to me until TONIGHT to feature myself!! So here we go this is my Mums in Business feature 🙂

I currently have a special offer on over on my website… All maternity and newborns sessions are HALF PRICE until the end of January!! Come on over I would love to capture your pregnancy and gorgeous new baby.

Who are you?
I’m Sonia, Mum of three lovely children and partner to a gorgeous man who is probably a saint for putting up with me – I also blog here at this very blog here in case you didn’t know 😉

What do you do?
I am a maternity and newborn photographer covering the East Midlands.

When did you establish your business?
It was way back in March 2008 that I started Sonia Thorpe Photography.

What made you start your own business?

I wanted something that I could fit round the kids. I’m a Mum first and foremost so being self-employed meant that I could control when and how much I worked.

What do you love about working for yourself?

I love being in control of me, not having to answer to anyone other than my clients of course 😉 I love that no two days are the same, all sessions go differently and I meet so many wonderful people and babies… lovely squishy babies, I can’t think of anything I’d rather do!

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?

Sometimes it would be nice to not have the responsibility, I often fantasize about a desk job where I’m told exactly what to do and then go home at the end of each shift. Then I wake up and realise that just isn’t me and I’d be bored senseless!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?

No I don’t think there is, everything I have done has been at my own pace, working around my family.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Just go for it! Never compare yourself to anyone else, just do what you have to do and most of all love what you do!

LOL I know what you mean, I am constantly broody… I usually want to take the babies home -unless they’ve pooped on me then I’m not that fussed 😉

I think it was about time you featured yourself! Beautiful photos! I had a bump photo shoot when I was pregnant and loved it! I should have also done some professional baby pictures of little man! x
