Mumprenuer Feature – Laura Sydonie

Mum in Business

Laura Sydonie is our mumpreneur feature today :O) Thanks Laura for taking the time to talk to us. Laura has kindly offered all our readers 2 free sessions at Theatre Tots – just quote “Theatretotsoffer4” when you get in touch to book.

Who are you?

Laura Sydonie

What do you do?

Director of Theatre tots Ltd, Freelance writer and facilitator and mum to 2 boys.

When did you establish your business?

January 2008

What made you start your own business?

I used to travel a lot performing and teaching and when I became a mum I wanted a change. I had always run my own projects and taught drama for years. I noticed a gap in the market for early years and special needs drama and Theatre tots was born!

What do you love about working for yourself?

Flexibility, control, creativity, working with people you enjoy and respect. I am lucky my kids can come with me too which is a great help.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?

I have never worked any other way so its hard to imagine anything else! Its a very black and white way to earn – everything has to be brilliant or the company doesnt move forward. I wish I was 3 people most of the time but dont we all!!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?

Not really as I have learnt so much and wouldnt be where I am now without the mistakes.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?

Trust your instincts.  Dont try to grow too quickly.  Invest time in people you trust – they will take your business forward if they believe in it.
