Our Mumpreneur feature for today is Vicky Arlidge from Tunes 4 Toddler Tantrums, please read her interview and say hi; You can also find Vicky on Twitter @tunes4tantrums
Who are you?
My name is Vicky Arlidge and I’m the mother of two tantrumming toddlers.
What do you do?
Before I had kids I wrote music for TV and theatre. Then the kids arrived and life changed big time. I started running music classes for little ones in my home town of St Albans and in July this year produced the first ever music CD aimed at helping parents tackle toddler tantrums – www.tunes4toddlertantrums.co.uk
When did you establish your business?
In July 2010.
What made you start your own business?
My son was refusing to brush his teeth one night and I thought ‘I have to make this fun somehow’. I went away and wrote a song about a scary tooth brushing lion … Tooth brushing was a breeze the following night so I set about writing a whole series of songs – about nappy changing, getting into the buggy, eating your food and many more. Each song I trialled with my own children and then with the kids who came to my music classes. The CD was officially ‘born’ last July and I have sold to Denmark, France and Australia as well as the UK. Its been getting great reviews – the NCT said ‘It works like magic’ and one Babyworld reviewer called it ‘The best CD in the world’. Most kind….
What do you love about working for yourself?
I can work as little or as much as I like and fit it around my children. I don’t have to answer to anyone and only have myself to blame!
Finally If there is 1 thing that you could tell other Mums who want to start there own business; what would it be?
Its not easy but it is fulfilling. Don’t take huge risks and you’ll be just fine!
