Mumpreneur Feature – Thea Gray

Mum in Business

Thea Gray from Clark & Gray designed the beautiful 308 Coat for pregnancy and beyond. This morning she is here to tell us about herself & her business :O)

“This coat was inspired by my own frustrations with my wardrobe when I had my children. As women go through the most changeable and exciting time of their lives, there’s still that desire to look and feel good. There’s no need to compromise on shape or styling; women deserve to feel special at this time in their lives. This is a design classic that will stick with you through thick and thin.”

Who are you?
Thea Gray

What do you do?
I designed and launched the 308 coat.

When did you establish your business?
I started designing end of 2009
In-store Summer 2011

What made you start your own business?
The job I had  before didn’t enable me to see much of my children – so I decided to totally change my direction and start designing. This coat was inspired by my own frustrations with my wardrobe when I had my children. As women go through the most changeable and exciting time of their lives, there’s still that desire to look and feel good. There’s no need to compromise on shape or styling; women deserve to feel special at this time in their lives.

What do you love about working for yourself?

Being able to hang out with my children whenever I want to, to be able to be creative, to be able to take the business in the direction I choose to.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
It can be pretty lonely at times and tricky to motivate yourself – I was aware of that before I started Clark&Gray, you just need to get your head down and work on it.

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?

Not at the moment – but I’m only a year and a half into it..

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?

If there’s a market for it – than go for it! Just try not to spend too much money at the beginning in case it doesn’t work out
