Mumpreneur Feature – Petite Pirouette

Mum in Business

Today’s Mummy certainly has her hands full working full time and running her own business… she how she does it below! Petite Pirouette is a brand new business so please show some support 🙂 You can follow on twitter  @PirouettePetite or  over on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/petite.pirouette.5

Who are you?
I am a 29 year old, full-time working mummy from London, with a 2 year old daughter (going on 22!). I currently work full-time as an Executive Assistant in the city. I love being a mum, working full-time and now starting Petite Pirouette too – but as a result I have a ironing pile taller than me!

What do you do?
I make luxury handmade tutu’s using top quality tulle and satin ribbons. Each tutu is made with between 50-100 meters of tulle with a matching stain ribbon waistband and bow.

When did you establish your business?
I have been making tutu’s for friends and family for past 6 months and as a result I have launched Petite Pirouette on Twitter (and Facebook) – its still early days but I have had positive feedback and some lovely comments. I have also just had my first shop order too! Yay.

What made you start your own business?
My friend’s daughter had a ballet party to attend and I offered to make her a tutu outfit, other mums at the party asked where it was from and as a result asked me to make some for their little girls too – and it has gone from there by word of mouth. Apart from making the popular pink ballet tutu’s I have also been asked to make special birthday Minnie Mouse and Tinkerbell tutu’s and I already have a few spooky Halloween orders to make too!

What do you love about working for yourself?
At the moment I am still working full-time as well as working on Petite Pirouette – and i have to fit it around my daughter and mainly work after she has gone to bed and at weekends. I enjoy being creative with Petite Pirouette – because it is a vast difference to my ‘office’ day job. Zzzzz!

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
Sometimes it can be difficult to motivate myself to work on Petite Pirouette in the evenings after an especially long, busy day at work – then doing the bedtime routine too. Which can mean reading my daughter up to 5 books! But I usually find a cup of tea and some chocolate does the trick 😉

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
Well its only early days for Petite Pirouette and I’m sure once thing go further along there will be things i’d have done differently – I am reading a lot of blogs and getting customer feedback as I go, which I can build on. But so far everything has been very positive and I have loved seeing the lots of little girls wearing my tutu’s. Some wear them for dance class with pretty ballet shoes and pink hair bows and others wear them to play dress up in the garden with muddy welly boots! Which i think is brilliant!

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Go for it! Best of luck! xx
