Mumpreneur Feature – Monica

Mum in Business

Monica from My Funny Bunny is on the blog today, take a look at her interview and then take yourself off on a shopping spree around her site with the fabulous discount code she has generously given us! (see end of post for code)

Who are you?

My name is Monica, I am a yummy mummy (hehe I like to pretend!) to two stunning kids, a 17 month old girl, a 4.5 year old boy and wife to a lovely supporting husband.

What do you do?

I am Managing Director at My Funny Bunny Ltd (it sounds very posh but it actually isn’t, it’s just a lot of hard work!) and wife and mummy (which is the hardest but most rewarding “job” in the world!).

I manage the whole business here at My Funny Bunny with the help of a couple of other people, it is truly a family business, we retail clothing, furniture and gifts for yummy mummies and rockin’ cool kids! Visit us at

We also have our own My Funny Bunny range (link to: ) of handmade toys, gifts, clothing and accessories for children!

When did you establish your business?

My Funny Bunny Ltd has been registered since October 2010!! I have however traded as a sole trader since 2006.

What made you start your own business?

I wanted to offer a one stop shop for yummy mummies and rockin’ cool kids… a shop where the word boring doesn’t exist and fun, trendy and colourful is the way!!

I also wanted a business that we could develop and have for many years to come as a family, and a business that goes around my family too, allows me to drop and pick up my kids from school. I hope to one day be able to offer the same conditions to my staff if necessary.

What do you love about working for yourself?

I love being able to work in any clothes I want, with crazy looking hair and being able to make myself lunch or a drink whenever I want! I also love being close to my family and seeing my kids all the time.

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?

No, no regrets!! I always look forward in life, try not to look backwards, althought I sometimes wish I was born wealthy and I had all the money in the world to invest in my business and make it all I want it to be in an instant! Lol but that is just me in La La Land!

Finally If there are 2 things that you could tell other Mums who want to start there own business; what would they be?
Register as a Ltd company: – If it is viable for your business register as a Limited company rather than being a sole trader, trading as a sole trader you are risking your personal money, belongings, house, etc… as a Limited company the company is a separate entity, so if your business goes to the gutter your personal life doesn’t. Oh and get an accountant, they are mega helpful to have…

Really know what you want: – The road ahead is hard and people will try and put your spirits down, some out of jealousy and some out of ignorance… believe in yourself and you can do anything!

Monica has kindly given us a 10% discount code for her lovely website – to be entitled you must enter “MummyLoves” at the checkout 🙂 – Code expires 31st December 2010.
