Mumpreneur Feature – Debbie from Monkey & Bo

Mum in Business
The lovely Debbie from Monkey & Bo is on the blog this morning, with a FAB 15% discount for her wonderful store!!! (See end of post for code)

Who are you?
I’m Debbie, mum to a lively 2 year old girl and owner of monkey and bo.

What do you do?
After working in the academic publishing industry for nearly 20 years I now run monkey and bo, an online store that sells babies and children’s clothes and gifts.

When did you establish your business?
Research started in 2009 and our website launched in March 2010

What made you start your own business?
When our daughter was born I soon found that I was scouring the shops and the internet for clothes for her.  I discovered so many fabulous designers and brands away from the high street that were colourful and deliciously designed whilst still being practical enough for every day wear.
We would get a lot of compliments on her clothes and I started to help friends find clothes for their children. When I decided that I wanted to spend more time with my daughter but still work, setting up my own online company selling clothes I am really passionate about seemed the most sensible and exciting opportunity!

What do you love about working for yourself?
I love being able to be completely flexible with my time and work hours that suit me and my family and I enjoy the new challenges that I face running my own company, even though that can be daunting sometimes! Then there is the child-like excitement I get when I discover a new designer or brand that I can’t wait to share with our customers!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I wish I had started with more confidence in myself and what I could achieve. I’m proud of the response that we have already received and there is so much more we want to do.

Finally If there is 1 thing that you could tell other Mums who want to start their own business; what would it be?
Build strong relationships with your customers and your peers. Online social networking is a great way to meet people and there are many others running their own businesses that will be willing to help you.

Thank you Debbie for you time & also for the lovely 15% discount code – ML10 which is valid until 12th December You can also find Debbie on Twitter @monkeyandbo

I totally agree – that is what held me back in the beginning Kerri! If it wasn't for the support of my partner who kept pushing me because he had faith in me I don't think I would have carried on x
