Mumpreneur Feature – Belinda

Mum in Business
The lovely Belinda from http://www.net2nana.com/ is on the blog today to tell you a little about herself & her business - Thanks for your time Belinda x

Who are you?
Belinda Bull, mum to 2 children (girl age 13, boy age 9).
What do you do?
I own
www.net2nana.com, a site full  of gorgeous gifts which I love to gift wrap and send out to people’s mum, grandmas, Godmothers and aunts.

When did you establish your business?
July 2010

What made you start your own business?
It was my mum’s 80th birthday and all my busy working nieces and nephews were struggling to find lovely, suitable gifts to send her. I researched gifts for grandmas on the Internet and realised there wasn’t much out there. My site appeals to expats, people in the Armed Forces and anyone who lives some way from their loved one but wants to send them a gift. I make sure that every item on the site has special features that will make it suitable for more mature ladies – for example. all my necklaces go over the head or fasten magnetically as a lot of older ladies struggle with fiddly clasps!

What do you love about working for yourself?
It is so rewarding seeing results and realising it’s come from all your own hard work. Yes the hours are very long, you definitely have to put in the time to make it work  but you have the flexibility to work around your family’s needs. I also love the shopping side, searching out gorgeous things that would make great gifts for people’s loved ones.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
Not really! I do get a bit scared sometimes when I have to make big decisions on my own, my husband is great and will always help (he runs his own business too) but I’m trying to have the confidence to handle everything myself.

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I would probably have been more patient and appreciated that everything to do with starting a business takes time, from getting the website up and running ,to ordering the stock to getting my first order all took longer than I expected!
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Look around you for inspiration, listen to what family and friends need in their life, then try and find a niche that you can fulfil. Make sure you choose something for your business that you love doing and want to learn everything about because you’ll definitely reap the benefits if you’re an expert in your chosen market.
