What made you start your own business?
When my youngest was small I made the decision not to go back to my job as a Parenting Worker and started blogging. It was the confidence blogging gave me, the opportunities it brought me and along with it the people that I’ve met that inspired me to start my own business. I’ve always wanted my own shop, but never thought it could be a serious option, so I spent some time reading business books (How to start a business from your kitchen table – for example) and started to talk it through with my husband. After working late into many nights over business plans I managed to secure funding from Virgin Start Up to launch Little and Fierce.
I absolutely love kids fashion and really think it’s come a long way in the last few years. My idea for the Little & Fierce kids accessories store was born after a desire to see kids accessories that weren’t tacky or constantly commercialised with cartoon characters or celebrities. I was fed up of buying accessories that were poorly manufactured and in turn not treasured and enjoyed by my children. Children aren’t just mini humans to be targeted by corporate marketing, they have their own tastes and I really feel this should be encouraged and respected.
I love to showcase both big and small brands that you won’t necessarily see on the highstreet and I work hard to hand pick brands and their accessories for our store, only bringing the best into the Little & Fierce fold.

What do you love about working for yourself?
I love the flexibility and freedom it gives me. Currently, I’m able to still drop off and pick up my girls as well as ferry them to things like swimming lessons.

Leopard Sunglasses
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
As it’s just me at the moment it can get quite lonely! Also everything is down to me, so I have to be really good to keeping myself motivated.

Zebra Necklace
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
Of course, this year so far has been a big learning curve for me. I’ve made some mistakes but the great thing is I’ve learnt from them and as a result made lots of improvements in the way I run things.
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Do your research and really hone your idea before telling everyone about it.
Once I’d really got to grasps with what I wanted to do I found it super helpful to talk my idea through, so it’s worth approaching a trusted friend or another mum in business for advice and a sounding board. Don’t be tempted to tell everyone at the early stages as you’ll end up with egg on your face if it doesn’t pan out. It’s better to wait until you know exactly how it’s going to happen.
Put together a business plan – it sounds daunting but I found it really helped me to get to grips with everything and really see whether my idea was viable.

What a lovely collection of accessories, they are all so pretty.
It’s great to hear about the confidence that blogging can bring and the changes it can lead to. Well done to Morgana for going for it!
Morgana’s stock is brilliant – really quirky and fun! Very inspiring.
Thank you for sharing this – some great tips and ideas.
Fab to hear of blogging giving Morganna the confidence to branch out and try something new. Best of luck – am loving the Ice Cream hair clip, but my daughter is 19 and not sure my 3 year old boy would appreciate it. Am I too old for it do you think? 😉
Truly inspirational, Morgana’s story and so many wee gems on her website, I will have a peek today!xx
Morgana’s stock is fab. I’d love to work for myself but have no idea what I would do 🙂
Love your store! I agree that a business plan is essential.
I didn’t realise Morgana had this online shop – I think it will be heaven for Eliza and off to check it out
What a lovely idea for a business and the accessories look really good quality and different from other options on the High Street. I love reading about business mums… Great post!
I love Little and Fierce. Great post xx
How nice to get to know a little bit more about someone behind the blog and store and what some great looking things on offer in the shop! x
Thanks so much for the feature! xx
I started my own business 10 years ago after I found myself a single mum and on benefits – something I didn’t want to be! It is very rewarding and I’m so glad I did! x
I try as much as i can to use the small independant shops but not as much as I could x
I love your store. I try to shop independant where I can, but as my boys are getting bigger I am struggling to to find suitable stuff for them.
A business plan is a good idea.
