Who are you?
My name is Katherine Homfray. I’m a wife, mum of one (Grace), a teacher & a mumpreneur! I ‘m also a travel enthusiast, cheese lover, keen photographer and am a big fan of my two gorgeous, greedy cats.
What do you do?
I have started CozyGlo, selling fun, multifunctional nightlights for parents and their children.
When did you establish your business?
Last year in March 2014.
What made you start your own business?
Soon after Grace was born we knew we had to get a nightlight to help us through all those broken nights. We really struggled to find a cute one and couldn’t believe that there wasn’t one that also had other useful functions to help with the parenting process! So we thought, ‘we’ll make our own!’ We set about designing our initial range, which includes what we believe to be the essentials.
What do you love about working for yourself?
There is enormous satisfaction in designing and creating a product that other people want. I think it’s important to have a purpose other than motherhood and find working for myself motivating and rewarding! It’s also great as I can choose my working hours to suit family life.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
It’s hard to switch off from it all, and I think I drive my husband mad talking about it! I struggle to fit everything in and sometimes worry that I’m not giving Grace enough attention.
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
Ooh. I suppose I would have managed my expectations and been a little more realistic in how much time and money it takes to get a product off the ground!
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Talk to as many people as you can who have already gone through the start up process to gather all those handy hints and guide you in the right direction. Also do your research to check that it is a product that people will buy. Finally, follow your heart and go for it!
Thanks so much for letting us feature you Katherine, we wish you every success with your business xx
