Good morning everyone, it’s been a while since I shared a mum in business with you so I’ll just tell you a little bit about it before I move on to introduce today’s lovely mum. Eight years ago when I started this blog I wanted to support all the lovely mums out there that were juggling family life and running their own businesses so I started my mum in business feature. I used to feature two or three mums a week back then but as I have got busier and busier with life they seem to have dwindled but I really do love to support mums running their own businesses so please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to be featured here. I’m a big believer in building other women up so get in touch to share your story 🙂
Who are you?
My name is Hannah, I’m 31 and a married mum-of-2, living the country bumpkin lifestyle in south Lincolnshire.
What do you do?
When did you establish your business?
It launched in October 2016.
What made you start your own business?
I had used and loved products from so many gorgeous independent UK brands, that I wanted to put them all in one place! I was also suffering from pretty bad PND and needed to focus my mind on something that I knew I could thrive in.
What do you love about working for yourself?
I get to take so much pride in the way everything I do comes together – it’s mine and I love that! I also get to be with my children when they need me, I get to go to their plays and parents evenings, I get to be there every morning and afternoon while my son settles in to his new school this year.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
It’s relentless in the fact that you never truly shut down, and there’s no such thing as regular income, annual leave, or sick pay!
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I would have refined my purpose more carefully before launching – I knew I wanted to donate to charity from every sale and support parents, but I didn’t know how best to communicate this until recently.
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Do your plans first, don’t just jump straight in because it takes a lot of work and passion and time. I’ve seen people wondering why they’re not at the top of Google after 3 months and without any SEO focus on their websites, or activity on social media. Be prepared to work for a hell of a lot more than you earn, for quite some time!
Thank you so much Hannah for sharing your wonderful business with us all.
