Making Time For Fun With The Kids

I don’t know about you but I find life with kids quite stressful, juggling everything that needs doing can be a real nightmare and I often find myself feeling guilty for not spending enough time with the kids or having not done the housework! Mess makes me feel really stressed so I often find myself taking the kids out for some fun so that I can ignore the mess at home… out of sight out of mind and all that!

Slumberdown has just done a study and found that parents spend more time taking care of the household chores than they do playing with their children! The study found the average parent spends almost four hours a day – the equivalent of more than 59 full days a year – completing household chores. That’s over two months every year. When you think about it that is an awful lot of time… boy I seriously need a cleaner! It’s not that I don’t enjoy playing with my kids just that I feel so stressed if I don’t get my work and chores done.

Slumberdown are on a mission to help mums make the most of their time with their kids. So mums can focus on being a partner in crime to their children and put the housework to one side every now and again. They have come up with a whole load of ingenious ideas for games you can play with the kids without leaving the comfort of your own home. Head over to their fun with kids page to check them out.

Slumberdown sent us lots of their gorgeous Sleepwell luxury bedding (which by the way is absolutely gorgeous, so so soft and not only does it feel amazing but you can machine wash and tumble dry it!) to create some fun games with the kids.

First we created a cosy reading den which stayed up all day and Boo actually finished a whole book while she was snuggled up in it. They’d seriously have me make this everyday for them and I have to admit to snuggling up in it once they had gone to bed too!

Life is so busy we all really need to slow the heck down from time to time and enjoy the little things! I could not believe how much fun we had with a load of bedding and absolutely nothing else!

Top ten things that get in the way of quality time with your children

  1. Household chores (50%)
  2. Long working hours (38%)
  3. School timetables (23%)
  4. Children’s homework (23%)
  5. The children would prefer to play computer games (23%)
  6. Everyone in the family is too busy on computers/phones/tablets (22%)
  7. The children would rather watch TV (20%)
  8. Anti-social working hours (18%)
  9. Children’s extra-curricular activities (18%)
  10. The children would rather go to their friend’s houses (14%)

There are so many things nowadays that get in the way of time with the kids. I am guilty of many from this list!

Doing the chores wouldn’t be so bad if we actually enjoyed them right?

Top ten most hated household chores

  1. Ironing (40%)
  2. Cleaning the bathroom (33%)
  3. Cleaning the kitchen (20%)
  4. Polishing and dusting (17%)
  5. Gardening (16%)
  6. Changing bed sheets/ towels etc. (15%)
  7. Cooking (14%)
  8. Cleaning the car (13%)
  9. Hoovering (12%)
  10. Sewing/mending clothes (12%)

I can’t personally agree with number 1 as I love doing the ironing because it gives me chance to stick Netflix  on to catch up with my favourite shows 🙂 Cleaning the bathroom is most definitely my most hated chore!

Obviously you cannot play with pillows without having a good old fashioned pillow fight! These pillows are so so soft I had no fear of either of them being hurt 😉

We also played stepping pillows and kids in blankets which was the kids idea, they thought it was pretty hysterical being rolled across the floor and wrapped up in the duvets. 🙂

We had so much fun playing with the bedding and coming up with new ideas of what to do with it. It just goes to show that you really don’t need a lot to make the little ones happy. Mine always love to spend time playing with Mummy & Daddy and I always try to down tools especially at weekends to give them my undivided attention.

If you’d like the chance to win your housework done for a whole year so you have much more time for fun then make sure you head over to the Slumberdown competition and fingers crossed you are the lucky winner… not too tightly though as I have entered too 😉

It is a great competition, I would love a cleaner for a year. Love the pillow fight shots

Oooh I’m afraid I don’t spend anywhere near four hours a day on household chores but my two are a little older so we share out any jobs that need doing 😉

I totally agree that comfortable bedding is the key to a good nights sleep x x

Ooh I love good bedding, nothing is nicer than snuggling under a good duvet. I hate ironing and pretty much any household chores these days as they really do eat into time with the children.

I don’t iron so that saves plenty of time! We spent this afternoon helping my son build his model for school.

Homework is my real bug bear – it’s unnecessary and often causes an argument too. Double whammy!

Very worrying. I know life is busy but we always make time for fun with the kids even if housework needs doing when they are in bed.

Gosh those statistics are really scary aren’t they? I know I am guilty of getting distracted by house and other stuff and I relly should try and make more time with the children.
