It’s easy to get swept up with the media about how 2016 was such a terrible year. Yes we lost a lot of awesome celebrities and that is very sad but they weren’t people I know, I won’t grieve for them… well I did a bit for Terry Wogan because wow what a guy he was! But I want to remember 2016 for what it was to me and that truth be told was a bloody fantastic year! It was a year of long walks, getting fitter, getting healthier and lots of family time. It was the year I lost almost 5 stone and got myself into a really good place and I’m hoping to continue that in 2017 with some awesome plans.
In all honesty the year didn’t get off to a great start as we all spent two weeks of January in bed with flu, it was awful but with the help of some lovely friends helping out with school runs we managed to survive. Boo was such a big help during that time, she was the only one of us who didn’t come down with it and she was wonderful. James too really looked after me when I was at my worst and I remember he went to the chip shop for me one afternoon as I was starting to feel better and I was so hungry! He bought me a chip butty and to this day I can still taste how good it was!
We watched the pantomime of Aladdin at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham before we all got ill. It was so funny, we have never laughed so much! Christopher Biggin played Widow Twanky brilliantly but I think the star of the show was Wishy Washy played by Ben Nickless, he had everyone in hysterics! It was easily the best Pantomime I have ever seen!!
Liam was in his local pantomime in February and we all went to watch him in that, obviously he was the star of the show! February was full of wonderful lunch dates with my kids and all of us as a family.
We especially enjoyed our first visit to Thaikhun. Boo and I had a lovely shopping trip together when she had an inset day and we also ate ice creams at the park… yes in February!
Oh March how I love March. During March my house (and my Instagram feed) is full of tulips and daffodils and I always feel so happy! Spring is my favourite time of the year! I just love visiting farms and seeing all the ickle baby animals, especially lambs… I just love ickle baby lambs!
We had a lovely visit to the National Forest Adventure Farm where we got to hunt for the Easter Bunny and feed the lambs. I also got to enjoy Mother’s Day with all my three kids at home and go on our first date night of the year!
Boo went off on her very first Brownie holiday, she had such an awesome time but came home very tired indeed. We spent time walking in the Peak District with my Mummy which was so lovely, we must arrange to do that again soon! Bugs learned to ride his bike! Yay!
We also got some caterpillars to grow into butterflies which we really loved doing. Daddy took some time off over Easter and we enjoyed lots of family time.
Liam came home and we enjoyed a few lunch dates together, it really is so lovely to have an adult son to just be able to go out, sit and chat to. I love our time together so much.
Our butterflies emerged and we let them go on a sunny May afternoon. The kids loved holding them until the butterflies were ready to spread their wings and say goodbye.
The first week of June was spent housesitting for my sister, we enjoyed exploring up North for a week while they enjoyed a week in Italy. I went on Bugs’ school trip to Twycross Zoo, it was a roasting hot day and I really felt for the little ones as they had to walk quite a way. It was good fun though.
We had a new bathroom put in during June so for two weeks we had to use our neighbours bathroom to shower/bath every night! Thank God for lovely neighbours! The kids found it rather exciting to bath in the neighbours house!
Bugs did his first Junior Parkrun in July and it was so wonderful to watch his big sister forget her competitive streak for a while. She ran at his pace and encouraged him the whole way round. It was so lovely and made me incredibly proud of her. We haven’t been to Parkrun for a few months now, we really must get back into going more again.
We enjoyed a visit to Hardwick in July… well Bugs was a pain in the bum that day but it was a beautiful day nonetheless. Both kids did totally awesome in their sport’s days and came home with lots of 1st place stickers and then just like that it was the summer holiday!
Bugs enjoyed his birthday party ten days before his birthday because all of his best mates are always away on holiday near his actual birthday so I brought it forward a bit. It worked really well and I think I will do the same this year too.
Well August was a totally boring month… just kidding! The lovely people at SeaWorld Parks flew us to Florida for a week to visit their parks… SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove. It was a truly amazing holiday and we cannot wait to go back one day. We flew over on the 5th August which was Bugs’ 6th Birthday. You’ll have to read our posts to see just what an amazing time we had.
The rest of August was spent mostly at the park enjoying the gorgeous weather we had. We also started our brand new blog The Places We Will Go…
The first week of September I reviewed a Peugeot and spent the week taking the kids out before they returned to school. We went to Alton Towers Waterpark, Twinlakes Theme Park, The Heights of Abraham and Chatsworth Country Fair.
It was also my birthday in September and I got to celebrate it with the lovely people at Hotter at one of their blogger events. We also went to watch DanTDM on Tour at Sheffield City Hall which the kids thought was totally amazing.
October is the month in which Boo turned 10, Liam turned 20 and James turned an undisclosed number. So there were many parties and meals out. I took James quad biking for the afternoon for his birthday, we had an amazing time, we went then went out for a rather posh meal which was gorgeous!
Boo had a movie night party at home with 5 of her friends and we made them some awesome party bags. October also saw us enjoying some Halloween Fun at Warwick Castle and at Gulliver’s Land in Milton Keynes.
November is always a quiet month for us after all the birthdays in October the purse clamps shut and we have a month of getting ready for Christmas. We did have a lovely day out at The National Video Game Arcade in Nottingham and hope to go back there soon to explore a bit more. Boo is trying to convince me to let her have a Minecraft party their for her next birthday so we shall see.
The beginning of December saw us visiting Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter which we have been wanting to go to for so long now. It was an awesome day and we loved every single minute! We already cannot wait to go back!
The rest of December was full of Christmas nativities, school discos, Elfie coming back to visit, a trip to the National Forest Adventure Farm to see Father Christmas, watching Beasty Baby at Lakeside Arts and Liam spent the whole of Christmas and New Year with us this year so it was wonderful to have all of my kids with me.
I was totally spoilt once again this Christmas and had lots of gorgeous presents! The most useful and most amazing being a shiny new iPhone 7 that I just love so much.
So that was our 2016 – every year I do the one second everyday project, where I do a little video everyday and mash them altogether at the end of the year. I absolutely love doing it and it is so awesome to look back on each year. Here is my 2016 video…
I hope 2016 was a wonderful year for you all but I hope 2017 is an even better one 🙂
