#LittleLoves – Wonder, Miranda and World Book Day

Hi everyone! Happy Friday. We have a snow day today so we have had a lie in and are currently just lounging around in our pyjamas. I love days like these. No responsibilities whatsoever. We will be heading out to play in the snow soon but I am dreading it as the wind is really howling, I imagine it is so cold out there. Bugs cried all the way home from school yesterday as we were walking into the wind so I’m not sure if he is going to cope with being outdoors for long. Oh well we have hot chocolate, marshmallows and blankets so I think we will snuggle down for a film this afternoon 🙂

I finally finished Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult this week. It has taken me ages to get through. Not because I wasn’t enjoying it though, just because I wasn’t getting much time to read. I really loved it! I love Jodi Picoult’s writing more and more with every book that I read.

I’m reading Wonder by R J Palacio now as Boo has read it and really wants to watch the film, so I said I had to read the book before we watch it. It comes out on DVD on the 26th March apparently so I think I will have finished it by then. I am already half way through and only started it yesterday.

I watched The Iron Lady with James last Friday night and found it incredibly moving. Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Maggie Thatcher is incredible but I was very saddened by it. It is definitely worth a watch if you have never seen it.

I’ve been watching Miranda on Netflix this week and OMG I had forgotten how funny she is! I love her so much, I’ve been howling with laughter, she has done wonders for my mood 🙂

I’ve not really listened to much this week when I do fancy some music I just browse the current playlists on Spotify and choose something from that as we have Sonos Play 5 speakers all over the house. I’m listening to Feel Good Friday playlist at the moment which has got some fab songs on it. I have to be quite careful while the kids are around though as they don’t tend to censor music on Spotify, thankfully it goes over Bugs head most of the time and Boo is at that age where she probably knows more naughty words than I do as she says the boys in her class swear a lot!

I don’t think I have made anything this week (apart from their World Book Day costumes… see below) but the kids made these lovely bookmarks for their school’s World Book Day competition. They are both big fans of Dr Suess so that was the theme of their bookmarks…

They didn’t win which they were a bit sad about but they did get a pencil for entering and their bookmarks came back laminated which made them very happy. I seriously need to get a laminator!

So yesterday was World Book Day, despite the snow our school stayed open and the kids got to dress up.  This year is the only year they will be together in junior school as Boo moves up to secondary school in September so they choose to go as Thing 1 and Thing 2.

These costumes were super easy to make, I bought some cheap red t-shirts from eBay and some dark transfer paper, printed the thing 1 and thing 2 templates, ironed them on, sprayed their hair blue, a bit of face paint and BINGO! They were very very happy and excited to go to school even though they would have been just as happy with a snow day 😉

and Lastly…

Bugs has started a challenge this month to run 25km to raise money for Children with Cancer UK. He really wants to help poorly children and would like to reach his goal of raising £100 so if you would be able to support him with a £1 or £2 that would be amazing! You can find his page here. Today he is going out in the snow for his first run, I have a feeling he is going to deserve every single penny he raises this month 😉

Happy Friday everyone. Hope you all have a great weekend x

What sweet bookmarks, and I LOVE the outfits for WBD. Half of one of our costumes didn’t turn up (Tintin’s blue jumper!) which did not go down too well with the wearer! I guess it was due to the bad weather though which can be forgiven. You are right though, that wind just made it all so much colder didn’t it? xx

Loving their WBD costumes! My girls will be like your next year, both in the juniors – one in year 6 and one in year 3. I honestly can’t believe how fast time is going.
Well done Bug! What a thoughtful and fantastic thing to do! xx
