How To Get Clean and Super Soft Bed Sheets Every Time

Whether its brand new bedding or your all-time favourite duvet, nothing beats jumping into a deliciously clean bed with super soft sheets. However, when juggling several wash loads a week it can be hard to achieve this every time.

To give you a helping hand, check out these top tips by laundry expert, Dr. Beckmann.

  1. Spin new sheets

New sheets tend to have a stiff feel to them, so pop them in the washing machine without any detergent or fabric conditioner to soften them up. A cycle with warm water will wash away any remnants left from the manufacturing process. After this, wash with your usual detergent.

If possible, also dry new sheets outdoors. This will dry them quickly, preventing a damp smell and keeping them fresh. If your sheets are a little bit older, pop them in the dryer and then iron whist still damp, meaning they’ll feel beautifully cosy and smelling good.

  1. Know your load

Remember, a hotter cycle isn’t always best. Make sure you wash your sheets at the correct temperature to keep them soft.

For best results when washing, half fill the drum. This helps clean water and detergent circulate, meaning the sheets are properly cleaned. It might take a bit longer if you need to do multiple washes, but it’s definitely worth it.

Separate lights, darks and colours as best you can to prevent the colours from running. If you do have bright bedsheets though, we recommend using Dr. Beckmann’s Colour & Dirt Collector. Simply place in the drum and then load your washing. This will collect all of the stray dirt and colour, meaning your bedding is cleaner and brighter.

Alternatively, if your sheets are white, we recommend Dr. Beckmann’s Glowhite ULTRA. This will restore dazzling whiteness to your favourite bedding.

  1. Dry instantly!

Bad smells begin to build when sheets are left in the machine, so to be sure to take the clean sheets out and put them on a warm radiator or washing line straight after the cycle finishes.

  1. A bad workman blames their tools

Don’t let your washing machine be the cause of your bed sheets not smelling fresh. To get rid of dirt inside your machine use Dr. Beckmann Service-it Washing Machine Cleaner with Active Carbon. The active carbon will tackle dirt and grime, meaning your bedding will come out smelling fresh.
