This year we have big plans to make our house beautiful, starting with a new bathroom in February which I will be writing more about very soon but today I wanted to concentrate on our living room as it is my favourite room in the house and I want it to be a perfect space for our family and also suitable for entertaining guests.
Currently my bay window is leaking so we have a bowl on the window sill which is catching all the water; so first up we need to get a new roof on the bay window and have the window replaced, we will then be ready to strip everything back and start from scratch.
I’ve been having a look round the internet for some living room colour schemes because when it comes to putting colours together I am a bit useless really so I always look online for inspiration. I am totally in love with this hot pink look (below) but not too sure if I could convince my other half.
We have an old Victorian house and he likes oldie worldy and I am really into minimalistic and contemporary so yeh we never really agree on a great deal; so things just don’t get done as one of us (usually me) ends up going off in a huff because we don’t get our own way 😉 Things have been going on like this since we moved here 9 years ago but enough is enough now as things really need doing. I will get my beautiful oak floor though, that is something I will stand my ground with.
We also need a gorgeous light fitting as we have just got a bulb hanging at the moment, that has been hanging there ever since we moved in and our intention was to get one straight away but we never found one that we really liked. Our living room is quite dark so we really want something to light it up, I really love these…
It’s not going to be a cheap or quick job but I am very excited and know that we will have such a beautiful house once everything is done and 2016 is the year that it is going to happen, so watch this space!

I love the contemporary loo and an oak floor sounds amazing so definitely stick to your guns on that one. The hubby and I are a bit 50/50. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we have different tastes. I love the inspiration you have shared through the pics. Hope it starts to come together soon and good luck with the bathroom. Can’t wait to see how that turns out.
These all look great – I like the neutral look best though, because it’s easy to change with different cushions and accessories. The pendant light is gorgeous.
I love a pop of white with a dash of colour in rooms, I am and dont think I ever could have just white, it would feel too restrictive to me x
I love the hot pink choice but I think it’d date quickly or I’d get sick of it and wonder why on earth I’d chosen it! Best to stick to neutral probably.
I love the first photo, it’s amazing – that’s something close to how I really want my living room to look. It’s difficult when you have different tastes, I hope you can find something you both like! It sounds like it’s going to be an exciting project!
I have so many ideas for our living room but am waiting for Sebby to be potty trained before we start replacing the furniture, I adore that light!
I have new sofa’s coming on monday – whoop! We got a quote for repairing and reupholstering our old one and it was way more than we could afford, In fact it was cheaper to buy two new ones!
I love the bright colours on that sofa. Gorgeous. Our house is in need of a lot of decorating and updating…. just need the funds to do it first! x
You have some beautiful choices here, loving your style x
Oohh, I love seeing people’s redecorating projects. Pinterest in particular is brilliant for this ort of thing
Maybe instead of one of you ( ok you) huffing you should choose a room each and do two rooms simultaneously one to each of your tastes and live with the consequences, at least then the house will get done.
Beautiful choices. I want to change our lounge this year and have a new suite but it just depends on finances at the moment. I want a more minimalist country styled room to feel cosy in.
This is part of our January blues buster list…to dream of new rooms in the house! What a great selection you’ve picked! We love the bright red sofa! Our house is all black and white with a red accent colour! 🙂
You’ve chosen some nice photos there for your living room. Good luck with the bathroom renovations – it sounds like you have a big year ahed!
You’ve got quite a task in hand to find a scheme you both agree on! We have a few projects that need doing this year. I hope my husband is up to the job!
