A few weeks ago I was invited to the brand new David Clulow Opticians in Nottingham for an eye test and to choose a pair of glasses. The opportunity could not have come at a more perfect time as I was due for an eye test and my eyes were really feeling ready for a new prescription. I was starting to go blurry and my eyes just felt so tired all the time.
I had never actually heard of David Clulow’s before so was excited to see what they had to offer… They are not a new opticians though, it turns out they were established in 1962 and have over thirty optical stores. They are based largely in London and the South East with stores in Wigmore Street, Kings Road, Kensington High Street, Hampstead, Covent Garden and Harrods. So that’s probably why I hadn’t heard of them. It’s really great to welcome them to Nottingham!
The new store is on Bridlesmith Gate in Nottingham, which just happens to be my most favourite street. It fits in beautifully with all the other great stores around it. Inside is all new and shiny and they have an incredible range of glasses from lots of popular designers including Ray Ban, Persol, Armani, Tom Ford, Tiffany & Co, Oakley and more!
I was welcomed by the lovely staff who really seemed very passionate about their roles and most certainly seemed to know what they were talking about. I felt that my eyes were given a really thorough testing. It turns out the reason my eyes were getting tired is because I am starting to lose my near vision so my prescription lens now has a reading boost at the bottom of the lens just to help me with that. I see varifocals in the not too distant future… Noooooo!!!
I warned the staff before we even started looking how difficult I am when it comes to glasses, that last time I bought new glasses it took me almost a year to find the pair that I wanted. When you have something on your face all day everyday you really want to be sure that it looks just how you want it to! It turns out it only took me 10 minutes to fall in love with the pair that I decided on. I think they were about the sixth pair and I just knew as soon as I put them on that they were the ones for me.
The pair I choose were these gorgeous matt blue Ray Ban frames and they are just beautiful! I was sad not to be taking them home with me that day ! I was told the wait for my new glasses would be 7-10 days and I’d get a phone call to go in and fetch them when they were ready. Sure enough 7 days later I had a lovely answerphone message to say I could go in and collect them.
I can honestly say I think they are my most favourite glasses that I have ever owned, they are so light that it really doesn’t feel like I am wearing them at all. As soon as I put them on the whole world became incredibly clearer and it just confirmed to me how much my prescription needed updating! Thanks so much to all the staff at Nottingham’s David Clulow for looking after me so well. I’ll definitely be back!

* I was gifted this beautiful pair of glasses and a free eye test for the purpose of this review. As always I have been 100% honest in my opinion.
