The first half of this year I just about managed to drag myself through; I went through a really tough time and as a result I punished myself. I didn’t look after myself or care about myself. But that is all behind me now; I came out towards the light and things are looking brighter than ever before.
It’s an incredible feeling especially after being in that very black place where you just can’t see your way out. I’ve been here a few times over the years but this time is different, I feel stronger, more positive and happier than ever before. I’ve found purpose in my life and I’m making plans for the future and I’m challenging myself to become a healthier, much happier person.
I find it very important to set myself challenges as it keeps me motivated and I’m quite competitive with myself so if I say I am going to do something I will do it. This month I have challenged myself to close all three activity rings on my apple watch each day. We are half way through the month now and I am determined to finish, it will be much harder once the kids are at home and I’m not walking them to school and back every day but I will do it.
I’ve hidden myself away this year, turned down events, parties etc because of being in that dark place but I’m not going to let it stop me now. From now on I will get out there more, say yes more, live life more and love myself more!
Earlier this year SCA set me a challenge to complete something I wouldn’t normally do and I accepted that challenge but have yet to complete it, this is something I will definitely be doing in the New Year. They gifted me a voucher for a 4X4 Off Road driving Experience at Donington Park, driving has been something I have struggled with in the past so building up the courage to do this will be difficult, but I know just how amazing I will feel once I have done it!
SCA created this challenge to support women’s empowerment and help us push our boundaries, this they know something about as they are the sponsors of Team SCA which is only the fifth all female team to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race and the first to do so in 12 years. In race history, no other all-female race team has been on such an equal footing with the male crews, with all seven teams taking to the water in exactly the same vessel – proving a female team can be competitive in this male-dominated industry.
For the first time in 25 years an all-female team has taken line honors in the world’s toughest ocean race.
UK sailors Annie Lush, Sam Davies, Dee Caffari, Libby Greenhalgh and Abby Ehler are five of the 11-woman international Team SCA crew who secured their win between Lisbon, Portugal and Lorient, France, in leg eight of the Volvo Ocean Race.
This victory, which has followed Team SCA battling male teams to steadily improve their on-water performance, saw the inspirational team leading in pole position throughout the 647-mile race to comfortably cross the finish line ahead of six all-male competitor crews.
So it’s not quite ocean racing but January will see me take my 4×4 challenge and then watch out 2016… I’m coming to get you! I have been so inspired by these amazing women 🙂

The very best of luck for your challenge! 2015 has been a horrible one for me, I’m looking to turn that around in 2016, maybe I should set myself some challenges, it may help me keep focused when I’m at my lowest ebb.
Have a fab time. it can be hard to see through the darkness sometimes. I think we are all very hard on ourselves some times. Women are amazing though!
