Getting in the Christmas Spirit with Netflix

Christmas/ Netflix Stream Team

If you are anything like our family there is nothing we like more than curling up under a blanket on a Sunday afternoon after we have spent the morning at the park or out for a chilly walk. We tend to do this every Sunday during December and we love to get in the Christmas spirit by watching some of our favourite Christmas movies.

This year is the first year that we have had Netflix so we will be making the most of it, out go Mum’s TV series addictions and in come the cheesy movies 😉 Here is what we have added to our list to watch on our special family Sundays…

The Search for Santa Paws is a prequel to Santa Buddies. When Santa Claus travels to New York City and gets hit by a cab, loses his memory and gets the crystal that keeps him eternal stolen, it’s up to his new friend, his puppy named Paws to save him.

Jake Wilkinson has just one thing in mind for the holiday season: get home for Christmas dinner or forfeit the vintage Porsche he has been promised by his father. He is therefore more than slightly annoyed when he awakens just days before the deadline to find himself in the California desert, with no money, wearing a Santa suit and a glued-on beard. He must beg, hitch and crawl his way home, learning a few life lessons along the way.

Fifteen year old Eddie  is on a shopping trip with his mother when she is tragically struck by a car and left in critical condition. With their father absent from their lives, Eddie and his brother Stewart face the daunting prospect of potentially losing their mother just as Christmas approaches. One night, Eddie s mother visits him in a dream urging him to find a halo so that she may be saved. Stewart scoffs at the idea but Eddie is determined. Will the brothers be able to find an angel and save their mother before Christmas?

Things we need to accomplish this wonderful tradition…

  1. Hot Chocolate with cream and marshmallows.
  2. Popcorn or other treats.
  3. Netflix.
  4. The softest, cuddliest blankets and a sofa.
  5. A blazing log fire.
  6. A loving family.
  7. A darkened lounge.
  8. Candles.

Resulting in a perfect Sunday afternoon; what do you do with your Sundays? Do you have a favourite Christmas movie?

What to Watch on Netflix this Autumn.

Netflix Stream Team

So it’s that time of year when all you want to do in an evening (or all day if you’re anything like me ;)) is curl up under a blanket and catch up on some TV! Freeview is such a bore most of the time so if you are lucky enough to have Netflix like me you will have endless hours of fab TV right there at the touch of a button!

So what to watch for adults?

Firstly you MUST watch The Originals – it is awesome! I crammed the whole season 1 in under a week because it is SO good! The Originals is a spin off from the Vampire Diaries, I have watched TVD and LOVED every second but I have heard from friends who haven’t watched TVD and just watched The Originals and loved it as much as I did; so whether you are a Vampire Diaries fan or not I suggest you give it a go especially if you are a vampire fan! I am eagerly awaiting season 5 of The Vampire Diaries to come to Netflix… please please please let it be soon!!

If you haven’t watched Orange is the New Black, House of Cards or Breaking Bad then you really must add those to your list… everyone says so!!

I have also enjoyed watching Gossip Girl (LOVE), Life Unexpected, Charmed as well as lots of great films 🙂

So what about the kids?

The kids can be entertained for hours and hours, their favourite TV shows, Disney films and many more…

Disney’s Bambi, Frankenweenie and Brave are new to Netflix this month so they are most definitely ones to watch, I don’t think I have ever seen Bambi either so that will be added to our Saturday afternoon movie time.

Bugs loves to watch Team Umizoomi, Dora, Diego and The Rugrats.

Boo loves to watch The Princess Diaries, Enchanted, Spongebob, Winx and Horrid Henry.

So that’s us, what will you be watching this Autumn?

It’s going to be a Netflix Summer!

Netflix Stream Team

The lovely people at Netflix recently sent me an Apple TV so I can enhance my Netflix addiction… I had been watching it on an iPad 2 which they sent me earlier in the year but well now it is just completely amazing!

Anyway I’m not sure how I am possibly going to be able to leave the house and switch Breaking Bad off now!!!

Seriously though I don’t watch too much TV and I certainly don’t let my kids watch too much TV but on the other hand I see no problem with them watching it for an hour or so a day… it never did me any harm 😉

When they are watching TV I really do like there to be some educational value behind the programme they are watching and Netflix do have some great programmes which cater for that.

For the little ones…

Both of mine have been huge Dora fans and Bugs really likes Diego too! If he gets to choose a programme it will either be Dora or Diego without a doubt!

Bugs loves his numbers so he really enjoys this! It covers basic counting, measuring, sizing, sorting, exploring shapes, patterns, time etc so all good for their little brains 😉

For bigger kids…

Boo is really interested in the world, she’s 7 years old and she just loves to suck in as much information as she can. Planet Earth is really incredible! I love to watch it with her and am usually just as amazed as she is!

She also has a fascination with dinosaurs, as does her brother so this is perfect for them to get an understanding of what they and the world was like back then!

So yes we don’t intend to be indoors much this summer but when we are we will be learning.

Story Starter - Final option 2_logo

I love the idea of this Story Starter Craft which is basically prompting kids to make up stories! This is on our to do list now and I cannot wait to hear the stories my little ones come up with 🙂

Precious Me Time…

Netflix Stream Team

What do you do with your precious me time? As a Mum I find it pretty hard to come by but since I became a Netflix Stream Team member at the beginning of the year all of my ‘me time’ has been spent catching up on my latest ‘addictions’ – Yes of course I mean TV shows on Netflix!

So without further ado I bring you my favourite shows to curl up with a cuppa or a glass of wine and just chill out!

Orange is the New Black

If you haven’t watched this already you really must! The second series started on the 6th of June. I have to admit not enjoying it quite as much as the first but it is so addictive and funny! There are some really fantastic characters, apparently it is based on a true story! I really must read the book after I finish this series.

Piper Chapman’s wild past comes back to haunt her, resulting in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper trades her comfortable New York life for an orange prison jumpsuit and finds unexpected conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric group of inmates.

The Vampire Diaries

I started watching this with Lero while his here one weekend and instantly got addicted… I think I watched the whole 4 series in about 6 weeks! Some of the guys are HOT! I am dying to see season 5!

Trapped in adolescent bodies, feuding vampire brothers Stefan and Damon vie for the affection of captivating teenager Elena.

Gossip Girl

I’m only a few episodes in to this but loving it! I’ve heard great things about it so am looking forward to continuing with it.

Kristen Bell provides the voice of an anonymous blogger who narrates the action in this hit series set in an exclusive New York City boarding school.

Life Unexpected

Life Unexpected was the first series I came across without recommendation, I watched the whole two series and loved every minute! It’s about a teenage girl who was given up at birth and spends her life in foster care; the story begins when she meets her birth parents almost 16 yrs old!

After years in foster care, teenager Lux tracks down her real parents to authorize her emancipation. But she lands in their joint custody instead.

Breaking Bad

I’ve only just started with Breaking Bad but I’m hooked already, I can’t tell you much about it so far but you just know when you’re onto a good thing, don’t you? 😉

A terminally ill chemistry teacher teams with a former student to manufacture crystal meth to secure his family’s future.

Ok now so you tell me, what are your favourite shows? What should I be watching xxx

Celebrate World Book Day with Netflix

Netflix Stream Team

Since becoming part of the Netflix Stream Team a couple of months ago I am totally addicted to Netflix! I am currently on the second series of Vampire Diaries and absolutely LOVING it but whenever I watch a series like this I wish I had read the book first. I am terribly lazy nowadays when it comes to reading I have all the Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games books and more all stacked on my bedside ready to read and I will read them one day but it is so much easier to watch an episode of my favourite series before I go to sleep…

unnamed (6)

The kids don’t know I do this and I encourage reading at all times because I love it I really do! Boo has so many books in her bedroom I just can’t stop buying them her and she just loves it, she’ll read book after book after book! I remember my sister being like that as a child but I never was! I love nothing more than sitting down with the kids and reading though. We will often just sit for the afternoon with lots of books around us and read one after another.

Here are 5 tips on how to make story time more fun…

  •  Dress up as the characters from your favourite books with your child for story time. You don’t necessarily need expensive outfits, whip out the face paints and get creative!
  • Discuss the book after reading; did your child enjoy it? What did they learn? Would they like to read it again? Who was their favourite character and why?
  •  Read out loud and give spirit to the characters – make it a family affair! Whether that be mum, dad or a grandparent children will relish the opportunity to spend time with the family.
  • A great incentive to get your child reading is to watch the TV show or film on Netflix after you have finished the book as a reward.
  • Make story time fun with an easy to follow craft idea on how to bring your favourite book to life.

Some Netflix titles which are all based on books are…

For little ones – Thomas and the Magic Rail Road,  Max and Ruby, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Busytown Mysteries and many more

For older kids – The Enchanted, Little Women, Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins and More!

Not to forget Mums – Vampire Diaries, War Horse, Mr Selfridge, High Fidelity and many many more

Also if you haven’t seen it I can highly recommend Orange is the New Black,  there is just one series on Netflix currently and it is AWESOME! Series 2 will be starting in June and I CAN NOT wait!

Whatever you do today to celebrate World Book Day; have an amazing day xx
