The Ultimate Christmas Song

Christmas/ meme/ personal

I’ve been tagged by my rather annoying sister Dawnie at Knees Up Mother Brown to take part in The Ultimate Christmas Song Meme! I hate getting tagged and I hate tagging people but seeing as it’s Christmas I thought I’d shut up whinging and join in the festive fun too ;O)

I love music; but I have music I hate rammed down my throat all the time!! James is always playing music! LOUDLY and it drives me insane! He hates anything I want to play so over our years together I have just stopped listening! That’s a bit shit actually isn’t it! YES! Yes it is!!! I hereby declare that in 2012 I will rediscover music ;O)

Anyway The Ultimate Christmas Song for me has to be…

and I am now tagging Multiple Mummy & Mummy Daddy and Me makes three to do this too! ;O)
Merry Christmas!!

Christmas Gift Guide – The Polar Express

Christmas/ Christmas Gift Guide/ gifts/ Review
My favourite part of Christmas is the afternoon of Christmas Eve when our family shut out the world and snuggle up on the sofa with a box of Christmas chocs and some mugs of hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie! We do it every year; last year it was Elf this year it will be The Polar Express! I have watched this movie before 3-4 years ago and I loved it! I have hidden this copy away from the kids for our Christmas Eve treat though – I sat and watched it on my own whilst Boo was at school yesterday morning so I could do my review and I really cannot wait to sit down with the whole family and watch it again!
I have to say that the animation is incredible and the characters are scarily life like! It really is a beautiful Christmas movie that I will watch over and over again and I just know that the kids will LOVE it! The Polar Express has recently been re-mastered in 3D and  unfortunately we don’t have a way to watch that version so we got the normal version to enjoy instead! I would absolutely love to watch this film in 3D – I am sure it will be amazing!!
The story follows a young boy who is in bed awake waiting for the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa’s sleigh. At five minutes to midnight his room begins to shake, and he hears a sound outside his window. He jumps from his bed and sees a train in the middle of his street. He grabs his robe and rushes out the front door to look at the train. The trains conductor asks the boy if he is getting aboard. He asks, “Where are you going?’ ‘To the North Pole, of course, this is the Polar Express!’ At the last minute, The boy jumps on the train and finds other young boys and girls going to the North Pole.
I really don’t want to tell you what happens along the way but there are several complications that need to be overcome before the children finally get to the North Pole to meet Santa! This is a wonderful story; one which you and your children will love! Make sure you believe this Christmas – I do ;O)

“At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.”

The Polar Express Blu-Ray Disc is available to buy on Amazon for just £8.99, The Polar Express 3D version is just £14.99 and the DVD is £9.47 – A really great film that every family should have in their collection :O)

* Warner Bros. sent us The Polar Express on Blu-Ray for the purpose of this review.

What We Think –
The ABBA You Can Dance Wii game is going to be a HUGE hit with ABBA fans this Christmas! Not only can you dance along to your favourite track’s but you can sing along with them too! We are lucky enough to already have a microphone (there would have been some disappointment if we hadn’t) You don’t need a microphone for the whole game just for the sing along part! There is lots of fun to be had with the dancing and the lyrics appear along the bottom of the screen so you can sing a long to those but it is great to be able to get the microphone out and sing badly along ;O) Everyone knows the ABBA songs so this is going to be great over Christmas when friends come round for a few drinks!

The moves are easy to follow (well there are a few tricky ones but that’s the fun of it) and the menu’s are easy to follow! Not sure this is one for the kids really but more for us crazy grown ups who are dying to go back to our teens again! Lero my 15 yr old absolutely LOVES it! He’s very into singing and dancing and LOVES ABBA so it is great for him; but Boo my 5 yr old hasn’t got a clue who ABBA are and has never heard the songs before! But I think ABBA are timeless and she’ll pick them up in no time! She doesn’t care anyway she just loves to dance along!! Really great game!! LOVE it :O)

You can pick a copy of ABBA You Can Dance up at Amazon for the bargain price of £17.99! Put it in someones stocking this year and have a ball ;O)

ABBA You Can Dance published by Ubisoft®

I received a few items from MASH recently for the kids to try! The Autumn/Winter 2011/12 range is absolutely gorgeous and I am so pleased with the clothes that we have been sent. They are really great quality and look really stylish and a little bit different too!

Boo was sent this beautiful tshirt! Which is absolutely beautiful and has got such
gorgeous little details :O)

She was also sent this gorgeous little zipped jacket! Which she loves – even though it’s not pink ;O)

Unfortunately Bugs has been really poorly this last week so I haven’t been able to get any photos of him in his! But here are a few gorgeous photos taken from the Autumn & Winter range :O)

Mash Junior will be launching it’s Spring & Summer range in the UK in 2012; so at present for UK customers, the best way to get your hands on MASH Jr is via Yoox who ship internationally.

Mumpreneur Feature – Jennifer & GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Christmas/ competiton/ giveaway/ Mum in Business
The lovely Jennifer from Scamp Baby Gifts is on the blog today to tell you all about herself & her business! She also has a fantastic giveaway for you – see the end of the post for the details :O)

Who are you?
I’m Jennifer Robertson and my sister and I created www.scampbabygifts.co.uk in 2010.  Everything sold by Scamp Baby Gifts is handmade by either myself or my sister – the product range consists mainly of personalised keepsakes for children including appliquéd pictures, blankets, cushions, babywear, bags and cards.

I used to work in a creative role for the BBC and my sister is a physiotherapist.  Although we have both been very keen makers (of many things!) since childhood neither of us has specific training in what we are now doing.  However, we both have a good eye for product ideas that we think are a bit different – not so easy to spot in the pink and blue world of children’s interiors!  Scamp’s products are the antithesis of this and are quirky, bold and colourful making sure they brighten up and individualise children’s bedrooms in the most stylish kind of way!
What do you do?
The Scamp studios are abuzz with the sound of sewing machines (well, mine and my sisters!) hand making an array of room accessories from personalised appliquéd pictures to baby blankets and other little gifts for kids – perfect for new babies, christenings and birthdays.  2011 also saw the launch of our Screen Printed Collection – using our four most popular images we designed screen prints for baby grows, bibs, tote bags, blankets and cushions so you can see your favourite Scamp icons on many different pieces now! When the stitching stops the designing and hand making of cards and gift tags begins so that you needn’t leave Scamp’s website when you buy a gift.  It’s all there!
When did you establish your business?

The business stated in 2010.

What made you start your own business?
With five young children between us, we saw a gap in the market for a range of lovely, distinct and affordable items for children’s rooms in particular. We’ve been interested in making things since childhood. Combining the idea of handmade children’s products with my experience in the marketing and creative field seemed to make for a good business idea.

What do you love about working for yourself?
Seeing what my sister and I are doing directly benefiting our company gives way more job satisfaction than I ever got in my previous jobs.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
My last job prior to Scamp was working at the BBC which is obviously a big organisation with a lot of employee support.  Working for yourself (in my case with my sister) and having no-one else on hand to call if there are problems means that any computer issues we have to deal with ourselves, accounts is dealt with by us, sales negotiations are tackled by us …. you get the picture!  In the past there was always someone else dealing with the areas outwith your specific role and now it’s just down to us to try to do it all – which can be a challenge in a field that is not our expertise!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
Anything that in retrospect could have been done differently has usually led to a better decision being taken when we look at how to move forward with the business.  So, I can’t say that there is something that I would specifically change – we seem to be very good at learning from mistakes and making sure we do it better in the future.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Starting my own business has been at times a steep learning curve and challenge, but one I have no regrets taking on!  My main advice would be to do your research to make sure your idea can fly in the first place.  Assuming it can another very useful area I have worked on is social networking – it is worth investing time in following related organisations, mums doing similar things, other small companies etc on Twitter and Facebook – they are often very useful for help on issues, finding out about relevant events that might be going on and sometimes just nice to know you aren’t the only one trying to do what you are doing!

Jennifer is kindly giving away one of her gorgeous personalised intital pictures (worth £35.00) to one of my lucky readers. The winner can choose from either a boy’s or girls colour and the initial :O)

Christmas Gift Guide – Rubber Duck Snowjoggers

Christmas/ Christmas Gift Guide/ Review

Boo was sent a pair of these gorgeous neon pink Rubber Duck Snowjoggers to test and review recently. I had never heard of this brand before so I was quite excited about getting them for her! Boo is the queen of pink so obviously we had to opt for the pink ones but they do come in other colours too!

I have never bought snow boots for Boo before; I usually just stick to buying wellies but after trying these for a couple of weeks I don’t think I’ll be returning to wellies in the near future! These boots are so lovely and snug with their faux fur lining and are lovely and padded! They are 100% waterproof too! I get so sick of wellies leaking on the way to school in the snow and rain that I always have to take an extra pair of socks to change her into when we get there! I can confirm that after splashing in many many puddles these boots have shown no sign of letting any water through AT ALL!

They have super trainer like soles with good grips for the slippy weather that is bound to come soon! They have velcro fastening and open up quite wide at the top, perfect for little ones to get their feet into! Boo has a real problem getting them dirty at the moment LOL she likes to keep things shiny and new! So wasn’t happy when I told her to walk on some grass!! “Oh no they might get dirty” she whinged! She was quite happy after I showed her how easily it would wipe off! ;O)

We really love these and Boo would wear them to bed if she could ;O) So if you are looking for a gorgeous pair of snow boots then these gorgeous snowjoggers are available at Mrs Marcos for £50.00 :O)

Christmas Gift Guide – Notalie

Christmas/ Christmas Gift Guide/ Review

Notalie is a brand new concept. The world’s tallest companion doll, designed to let girls be girls! She is 1 metre tall and has a VERY unique appearance! She has knotty elbows and knees and is the perfect size and squishy-ness to be a girl’s best friend!

Notalie

I absolutely love Notalie and the idea behind her! Little girls are growing up far too quickly nowadays and have so much to take on their little shoulders. Notalie has been designed to encourage girls to play with their dolls for longer and to remain children for longer and to develop at their normal rate! Notalie alone cannot deal with this problem alone so it is up to us as parents to ensure this happens!

This is where Notalie comes in. She is carefully designed to look like the girls who will play with her and because she is so tall, she is immediately embraced as one of the gang. She’s feisty and funny and can share jewellery, hair accessories and be part of a girl’s life, whatever she is doing. She’s a true best friend.

This enables girls to indulge in vital creative play for much longer.

Notalie is the first stage of a carefully planned  mission to help empower young girls as they grow up. In a world where celebrity takes centre stage and where blame culture is the order of the day, Notalie’s role is to bring back some good old-fashioned values like respect, (for themselves and others), to think for themselves and to take responsibility for their own actions. However, she’s not a ‘goody-two-shoes’ but very much a girl of today – spirited, funny and intelligent.
Notalie taking Hitch for a walk
I will always encourage my kids to play with age appropriate toys and try and help them be kids for as long as possible! I hate the way life has become – young girls idolise models and celebrities in magazines & on TV  that have been air-brushed to death! So we have welcomed the lovely Notalie into our home and I will proudly tell everyone I meet about her! Boo already loves her and I think Bugs has a bit of a crush on her too ;O)
Boo absolutely loves the fact that she can share her jewellery & hair accessories with Notalie – It really does make it much more fun than having a baby doll around! I think I may just have to buy her dog Hitch for her for Christmas too as I feel a bit sad about him being left on his own – I mean look how adorable he is!!
Hitch
Notalie is available from http://www.notalie.com/ for £45 and Hitch is £30 – but be quick only 600 have been made! :O) While you’re on the website check out Notalie’s blog for some really fun posts – She has been getting some rather great attention and has recently been seen on Blue Peter & The Wright Stuff! *High Five* Notalie! We love you & yes you are better than Barbie!!!! :O)

You can follow Notalie on Twitter @NotalieKnot or say hi on Facebook too :O)
