#Blogtober18 Day 18 – #WorldValuesDay

Blogtober18

During October I am taking part in #Blogtober18, where I write a blog post everyday for the whole month. Mandi over at Big Family Organised Chaos is hosting a linky each day where she also gives a prompt for us to write about. Today’s prompt is ‘Respect Everyone’ for #WorldValuesDay so I’m going to be talking how you can get involved.

#WorldValuesDay 2018 is an opportunity to think about our most deeply held values and to act on them. Staying true to our values and acting on them has never been more important.

Values are the core of who we are. They are our motivators, our drivers, the passion in our hearts and the reason why we do the things we do.

This year the theme for World Values Day is all about putting our values into actions in the community.  Whether you choose to do it as an individual, a group, an organisation or a school there is so much you can do to help in your community.

World Values day are asking you to choose a community, choose a value, take an action and share it!

I started to look into the values guide for individuals which you can find here and it gives a really in-depth look into values and how you can act on them. It also helps you decide what values are important to you. From a list it asks you to choose ten values then reduce them to 5, then put the 5 values in order of importance from 1 to 5, with 1 being the value which is most important to you.

So currently I have narrowed my values down to 13…

Appreciation, being valued, caring, cleanliness, helpfulness, friendship, family, kindness, making a difference, loyalty, sense of purpose, belonging and trust.

Now I need to narrow this down to my top 5 values…

5. Making a difference

4. Kindness

3. Caring

2. Friendship

1. Family

Now I have my top five values I need to think about how I can put these to action in the community. I am always very conscious of looking after my friends and family and I like to think that I am always there when they need me. I also am always looking for ways to make a difference, this is really important to me and really makes me feel like I have a sense of purpose. I love to do charity work and am going to start looking for a new project to focus on in our local area and hopefully turn it into a chance to make some new friends along the way. I’m also going to focus on some lovely acts of kindness that I’ll be sharing with you all soon too 🙂

What about you? What are your top 5 values? I’d love to hear 🙂

This is a great exercise for working out what is most important to you and knowing what to put in action. I think the whole world needs more kindness so I’ll be looking forward to reading about your acts of kindness.
