20 Box Sets to Binge Watch

During October I am taking part in #Blogtober18, where I write a blog post everyday for the whole month. I’ve made it to day 26 and today is the first day that I am really not feeling the love for it. I’ve got awful PMT and am just feeling incredibly crappy. All I want to do is curl up under my blanket and watch Netflix. I really hate how my brain works when I’m feeling bad, it just focuses on all the negative crap and makes me feel even worse. I’ve been looking forward to today all week as the kids break up for half term today so I am going to pick myself up and try and make myself feel better.

Today I’m sharing my top twenty all time favourite binge worthy box sets. I love every single one of these shows and could watch them again and again.

Charmed follows a trio of sisters, known as The Charmed Ones, the most powerful good witches of all time, who use their combined “Power of Three” to protect innocent lives from evil beings such as demons and warlocks.

I remember when I first started watching this as it was just after Liam was born (22 years ago) as soon as it came onto Netflix a few years ago I watched the series and loved it.

Designated Survivor

Designated Survivor is an American political drama television series. Kiefer Sutherland stars as Thomas Kirkman, an American politician named the designated survivor for the State of the Union, who suddenly ascends to the position of President after an explosion kills everyone ranked ahead of him in the line of succession. Kirkman deals with his inexperience as President while looking to uncover the truth behind the attack. If you love a bit of Keifer Sutherland then you will love this.

Shooter is an American television drama series starring Ryan Phillippe in the lead role of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the President.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of privileged upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and an anonymous blogger named Gossip Girl who reveals all of their gossip!

Gossip Girl is something that I thought I would never get into but after a few episodes I was hooked.

Grace & Frankie

Grace and Frankie are two unlikely friends who are brought together after their husbands announce that they are in love and plan to get married. It’s genius and so funny, full of wonderful characters.

24 stars Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. Each season, comprising 24 episodes, covers 24 hours in Bauer’s life using the real time method of narration.

I love Kiefer Sutherland and enjoyed every single episode of 24!

Prison Break

Prison Break revolves around two brothers, one of whom has been sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and the other who devises an elaborate plan to help his brother escape prison and clear his name.

I’ve just finished watching season 5 and it didn’t disappoint!

The Good wife

The Good Wife focuses on Alicia Florrick, the wife of the Cook County State’s Attorney who returns to her career in law after the events of a public sex and political corruption scandal involving her husband.

I think The Good Wife possibly went on a bit too long, I loved the first few seasons but got a bit bored in the end.

Homeland stars Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, a Central Intelligence Agency officer with bipolar disorder, and Damian Lewis as Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper. Mathison had come to believe that Brody, who was held captive by al-Qaeda as a prisoner of war, was “turned” by the enemy and poses a threat to the United States. The series focuses on a storyline that evolves from this premise, together with Mathison’s ongoing covert work.

Homeland literally has me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails every single time I watch it. The first three series are just incredible.

Sense8 is an American science fiction drama portraying eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly become “sensates”; human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked.

Sense8 is just wow for me! Like nothing I had ever seen before. It was a little confusing at first but once I got it I just LOVED it!

Luther is a British crime drama television series starring Idris Elba. If you love watching crime drama then this is definitely one for you. Idris Elba is just fantastic an Luther.

Skins is a British teen drama television series that follows the lives of a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England, through the two years of sixth form. Its controversial story-lines have explored issues like dysfunctional families, mental illness, adolescent sexuality, gender, substance abuse, death and bullying.

It’s very real and quite disturbing at times and I was left needing more when it ended. I really must watch it again as it’s been a good few years since I last watched it.

Orphan Black

Orphan Black is a Canadian science fiction thriller television series starring Tatiana Maslany as several identical people who are clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of one of her fellow clones, Elizabeth Childs, after witnessing Childs’s suicide.

The acting from Tatiana is just incredible, I did feel that it went on for a longer than in needed to but the first two series were just brilliant!

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the popular book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith.

I got into this a few years ago when Liam started watching it and think it was probably the quickest I have ever binge watched anything in my life.

I’ve been watching Friends since I was 16 and recently re-watched the entire series. It’s an absolutely genius show! Something I can easily dip in and out of now when I need a feel good show to watch.

Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is an English television crime drama set in 1920s Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War I. It follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family.

This is one of the only things that James and I will watch together, He loves this and Game of Thrones!

The Gilmore Girls

The Gilmore Girls is an American comedy-drama television series and its main focus is on the relationship between single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory, who live in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a small fictional town filled with colorful characters.

I love the Gilmore Girls, such a funny show which always leaves me with a lovely warm feeling.

The Crown

The Crown is a historical drama which chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) from the 1940s to modern times.

The acting in The Crown is just brilliant, you’ll actually believe you are watching the Royal Family! I just love it!

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels, the first of which is A Game of Thrones.

Is there anyone out there that hasn’t watched Game of Thrones and is eagerly awaiting season 8?

Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is a high-intensity medical drama following Meredith Grey and a team of doctors at Seattle Grace hospital who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis.

Grey’s Anatomy is my absolute favourite programme to watch right now, I’ve watched all 14 seasons twice now and am so happy that season 15 has just started!

I’d love to know what your favourite box set is, do leave a comment to let me know what you’d recommend. Especially if you can recommend something funny as I really need more things to watch that will make me laugh 🙂
