A Visit to Busch Gardens

Adventures/ day out/ Travel

The third park we visited during our week in Orlando was Busch Gardens, now Busch Gardens isn’t actually in Orlando it is in Tampa but do not let this put you off as it is well worth the hour drive to get there. Busch Gardens has something for absolutely everyone; it has a fantastic mix of family rides, rollercoasters and animal encounters that will have you going back again and again. We found that Busch Gardens was the best fit for our family. Myself, Boo and Bugs had our best ride experience of the week here while Daddy found that Mako at SeaWorld just could not be beaten 😉 So without further ado here are our highlights from our day at Busch Gardens…

Cobra’s Curse: This is a brand new family thrill ride which is like nothing we have ever been on before. You get taken up in a lift until you are face to face with the cobra then you are sent forwards and backwards spinning in different directions depending on the weight of the riders. No two rides are the same! It’s such a lot of fun, a great one for the kids.

SheiKra: My absolute favourite ride of the week! SheiKra is a 200 feet high, floorless rollercoaster. You are taken to the edge of a 90 degree drop and held there, you are then dropped at 70mph. The end of the ride includes a plunge into a huge water feature which soaks viewers. Totally amazing!

Falcon’s Fury: This is one ride that I said I would never go on when we started planning our trip but I am so pleased that I worked through my fear and forced myself to get on because I really loved it. It would have been my favourite ride of the week if I hadn’t of gone on SheiKra afterwards. Falcon’s Fury is North America’s tallest freestanding drop tower. Standing at 335 feet tall, the views at the top are incredible! Once at the top your seat pivots 90 degrees so that you are facing the floor and then you are plunged straight down at 60mph!

Cheetah Hunt: This was Boo’s favourite ride of the week, her first experience of going upside down on a roller coaster and she LOVED it! This ride mimics the speed, power and agility of a cheetah, it’s the only rollercoaster I have been on where you are accelerated up the hills instead of slowly climbing them.

Congo River Rapids: Of course getting absolutely soaked was the highlight of Bugs’ week! He thought it was hysterical that we all got drenched on the rapids and even funnier when Mummy got shot in the face by viewers with their water guns!

Serengeti Safari: This was a 30 minute truck tour across 65 acres of Serengeti Plain where we were able to get up close to zebras, rhino, ostriches and more. Our highlight was hand feeding the giraffe! Amazing!

Animal Care Centre: In the Animal Care Centre you can take a closer look at the amazing work Busch Gardens does with animals, you will observe and even take part in the animal care experience. What you will see will totally depend on what is happening that day; we met a ground cuscus and learned all about what they like to eat, the kids even got chance to feed him. We also met animal ambassador Edgar the screech owl who was tiny and totally adorable.

Edge of Africa: This is a walking safari where you will come across hippos, lions, lemurs, meerkats and crocodiles. Such amazing animals in naturalistic habitats, inspired by an abandoned African fishing village.

Jambo Junction: At Jambo Junction we got the opportunity to meet Harry the Sloth who is 40 years old and we also fed the beautiful flamingos. There are also lemurs, cuscuses, opossums and more.

We ate at the Serengeti Overlook Restaurant which has a beautiful view overlooking the Serengeti Plain. You could choose to eat from the buffet or from a table service menu. The food was fantastic as was the Cobra’s venom cocktail I had 😉

During our day at Busch Gardens we were so thankful for the Spritzer Squad who were wandering around the park offering heat relief to visitors in the form of a light mist of cool waters. This was absolutely wonderful and very much needed.

As you can see our day at Busch Gardens was amazing! We had so many wonderful experiences and we will definitely go back if we ever get to Florida again.

As a child I went to Busch Gardens, I would love to return with my boys. Such fab memories from the place, your very brave though going on all the rides! I don’t think drop rides especially are for me eeeek! I think the highlight would be the ground cuscus – never set eyes on one of them before x

I love, love, love Busch Gardens – although some of the rides were a bit too much for me, the wooden roller coaster rocked me all about like crazy. I love seeing the animals though, it’s just gorgeous there.
