It’s been a while since I featured any business Mums on the blog so I decided to put a request out on twitter because I love to see what lovely businesses are out there that are run by Mums. The lovely Rachel got in touch with me a couple of weeks ago to tell us all about her business Rachel’s One Stop Shop which sells lots of lovely baby and children’s items. You can also find Rachel on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Please do say hello and make her feel welcome
Who are you?
My name is Rachel Bowler. I am 31 and I am mummy to my little boy Bradley who is 3 years old. I am also married to my husband Ollie and we live by the seaside in Mablethorpe Lincolnshire
What do you do?
I sell a variety of baby & children’s items. Including Disney & Character items, Baby Gifts, Baby Accessories, Activity Items, Clothing & Shoes etc
When did you establish your business?
What made you start your own business?
I have a health condition (fibromyalgia) which effects my everyday life and unfortunately I had to give up my hairdressing business 10 years ago. After having my little boy in January 2011 I decided to try some different things from home to fit around my health plus be at home with my little boy, and after testing the waters to see if the baby and children’s market was something needed in my local areas I decided to go for it and I am now working from this year to broaden my customer base to wider areas as I can now offer postage on all my items.
What do you love about working for yourself?
I love being able to be at home with my little boy, a huge part for me though is being able to adapt work around my health so if I’m having a bad day health wise I can lay in bed and work in my pjs! Lol It gives me so much flexibility for my health and family life.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
Unfortunately I find it very hard to switch off from the business and cant just leave the day job at the door and come home.
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
My business is still very new and I am learning things along the way. There are things that I’ve learnt which I wont do again but I wouldn’t change any of it as its all been for the best enabling me to learn and go forward and improve.
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
If you have a passion for something and feel you can dedicate your time and energy then go for it! I find you get out what you put in but the satisfaction that comes with running your own business and having happy customers is very rewarding.
Rachel has very kindly donated this fab Hello Kitty Glow Jewellery making set for one of my lucky readers. All you have to do to enter is complete the Rafflecopter below :O)
