The lovely Emily from bibT is on my blog this morning to tell you about a product that many of you will just love and even better she’s also giving one away… check out the end of the post for a giveaway
Who are you?
Emily Snape, mum of 2 boys, who are 2 and 4 and I live in crazy Kings Cross!
What do you do?
I am a designer and have recently launched a new product bibT. bibTs are revolutionary wipe-clean 100 % organic tops that are super soft and keep your toddler squeaky-clean!
When did you establish your business?
bibTs have been in development for about four years and once we’d got the product spot on, we started to sell them at markets, in baby boutiques and online in 2013.
What made you start your own business?
Having two boys that refused to wear bibs, I came up with the idea of a really comfortable bib Tshirt. My boys would also get grubby through the day with mud and paint and soggy sleeves, so something that could resist mess seemed like a great idea. My friend, Lucy, and now my business partner, is a wedding dress designer who uses fair trade factories and organic materials, and we got chatting about it in the playground. She then went to India and got the first samples made, and bibt’s story began!
What do you love about working for yourself?
I love getting to be creative and working on the whole brand, from the design of Tshirts to the leaflets. It’s also fun and a learning curve to get stuck into all sorts of roles, from tying the ribbon around the tops to selling at a market in Spittle fields. It is so exciting to see bibT out there in the world and people enjoying the tops and it is really rewarding when people come back to get another size or design.
Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?
I’m not very good at switching off and will be busy reading emails while pushing the swing in the park. In the evening , I always have my laptop perched somewhere near me!
Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?
I think it’s been a good move to slowly grow bibT as a business and get the product exactly right before we launched it. We’ve got a really great team getting it out there to the world. I always tend to dive head first and I’m lucky the bibT team have sometimes said, ‘slow down, lets consider this first!’
What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?
Go for it, but start slowly so your overheads are as low as they can be. If you can work around your kids it is amazing and I know I’m very lucky to be able to pick them up from nursery every day and spend lots of time with them in the holidays.
Emily is kindly offering a bibT to one of my lucky readers. The winner can choose a bibT in their choice of size and design! All you need to do is enter via the Rafflecopter below! Good luck xx
