Mum in Business – Rebecca Wilson

competiton/ giveaway/ Mumpreneur

Good afternoon everyone! Today we have another lovely mum in business on the blog. Please welcome Rebecca from My Bubba. You can also find Rebecca on Facebook and Instagram so make sure you pop over and say hi. Rebecca is very kindly giving away one of her gorgeous personalised bubba pendants or pins so make sure you read right to the end to see how you can win! 🙂

Who are you?

Rebecca Wilson, jeweller, ceramicist and mother of two (in no particular order)

What do you do?

My latest venture is My Bubba, creating personalised silver jewellery for your little treasures, featuring an image of their cherished comforter that they can keep close to their hearts always.

When did you establish your business?

Moments ago! Although I have been a maker for well over a decade.

What made you start your own business?

The inspiration for this business came from my own daughter and her undying love for a very stinky old rabbit called Bubba. When the time came that Bubba could no longer come everywhere with us (for his own safety, he was lost and found sooo many times!), I wanted to find a way that she could still always keep him close to her for comfort and reassurance. She told me once that Bubba is ‘part of her heart’, so I cut his likeness from a tiny silver pendant, which she wears close to her heart.

What do you love about working for yourself?

Being a self employed, work from home mum gives me the flexibility to fit my work in around my family.

Is there anything you do not like about working for yourself?

At busy times it feels more like family is having to fit in around work than the other way around. Not having an office to leave at 5pm, or a job to clock off from does allow work to creep into every moment of your life. Sometimes it is hard to ignore the email that has just flashed up on my phone, or to know when it is NOT an Instagram moment, it’s just a moment to savour! And also there’s nobody else to make the tea!

Is there anything you would go back and do differently if you could?

I should have started this project sooner! I first became interested in childhood relationships with comfort objects during my undergraduate degree, that was 15 years ago. Enough said! I suppose its just taken a long time for it all to click into place.

What advice would you give to a Mum considering starting her own business?

Just get on with it! There will never be a ‘right time’, you will never have ‘more time’, these are mythical concepts! Starting is the hardest part, once the ball is rolling you have no choice but to roll with it, and hopefully it will snowball into something brilliant.

As I said Rebecca is kindly giving away a personalised bubba pendant or pin of your choice to one of my lovely readers. All you need to do is complete the Rafflecopter below to enter. The winner will be notified by email on the 13th December. Good luck x
