Last weekend we took Maxwell for his very first trip to the cinema, it was the day before his third birthday so we wanted to do something special so when Cineworld contacted me to see if I’d like to review for them I obviously jumped at the chance! Maxwell & Maisie LOVE Despicable Me (so do Mummy & Daddy) so were very excited to go and watch Despicable Me 2!
We opted to go to Nottingham Cineworld, a cinema we wouldn’t usually go to as it’s right in the city centre and parking can cost a fortune. It cost us £6.50 to park for the time we were there and when you add that to fuel prices, cinema tickets and snacks it’s getting up to around £50 just to have a trip to the cinema and for many families that is just not justifiable! However Cineworld in Nottingham is a perfect location if you live in the centre or have come in on the bus for the day, in the past I have driven in with my book club girlfriends and we have shared parking fees.
Cineworld Nottingham boasts 14 screens with screen seating capacities ranging from 108 to 590 people. Located in the luxurious Cornerhouse complex the venue is surrounded by a vibrant variety of bars, cafes and restaurants to suit everyones tastes.
We were given a family drink and snack package which consisted of 2 large drinks, a large popcorn and 2 munchboxes for the kids, this would have cost us £9.95 a saving of 40% on the usual prices – this was far too much food for us, the kids took their munchboxes which contained a drink, bag of popcorn and a bag of milky stars home with them as the large popcorn was plenty big enough for all four of us and then some we put in the bin at the end. I’m not a big drinker so I only had a couple of sips of my drink. So for some families this will be really good value, for me personally I would never buy such a promotion.
The seating at Cineworld is great, all the seats are lovely and comfortable and you get plenty of leg room, It has a really spacious feel to it and I’d be very surprised if anyone ever had someone who was ‘too tall’ sat in front of them. They are really pleasant cinemas and it was really what we needed for Maxwell’s first time.
The screening was very quiet when we went last Sunday at 10:30am, I’d suggest it a perfect time to go if you have young kids that may be a bit loud Maxwell made the whole place erupt with laughter when about ten minutes in to the adverts he shouted “OH COME ON!” at the top of his voice! The longer you leave going to see a new release will also ensure it is less busy.
We really loved Despicable Me 2 and will definitely be buying it on DVD when it comes out, it had us in fits of giggles at some points and kept the kids entertained throughout, well the popcorn helped also
Overall we had a brilliant time at Cineworld and I would definitely visit again. I quite like the sound of Movies for Juniors; Screenings take place on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings selected Cineworld cinemas.
*We were provided with tickets to watch Despicable Me 2 and our snacks in exchange for this review – as always all thoughts are my very own
